Here’s what’s going on this week. It is difficult to keep track of everything and get it right from the start so be sure to checkbook on the newsletter on the actual website to see if I have updated the events list. Last week I had to add a few events so it’s definitely worth taking a second look to see if anything has changed.

• July 3 – Billy Nation: Billy Joel Tribute
  🕖 7 PM @ Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame, 2231 R St
  (Live Billy Joel tribute band—select seating options available.)

• July 3 – Toddler Time @ Beale Library
  🕥 10:30–11:30 AM @ Beale Memorial Library, 701 Truxtun Ave
  (Stories, songs, and fun for toddlers and parents.)

• July 3 – The PreGame Show @ Eva's
  🕖 7 PM @ The Historic Bakersfield Fox Theater
  (Kickoff party with food, drinks, and entertainment before the big weekend.)

• July 4 – 36th Annual Westchester 4th of July Parade
  🕣 8:30 AM @ 22nd & Elm, travels through Cedar & 20th, ends near 22nd St
  (Classic Bakersfield tradition—floats, flags, and festive fun.)

• July 4 – Independence Day Fireworks Show
  🕕 6 PM–9:30 PM @ The Park at River Walk, 11298 Stockdale Hwy
  (City-sponsored celebration with food vendors, music, and fireworks at 9 PM.)

• July 4 – @bikejam661 River Walk Firework Show Meet-Up
  🕣 8:30 PM @ Aera Park, 100 Jewetta Ave
  (Community bike ride + music meetup before the fireworks. No sign-up—just pull up and vibe—Show will be watched form Aera Park)

• July 4–5 – Dinner & Dancing at Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace
  🕔 5 PM–10 PM @ 2800 Buck Owens Blvd
  (Live country music and dining at one of Bakersfield’s legendary venues.)

• July 5 – "King of the Savannah" Paint Party
  🕖 7–9 PM @ Corks & Strokes Studio, 2623 F St, Suite M
  (BYO drinks & snacks—step-by-step lion painting, all supplies included for $45.)

• July 5 – Family Day at Buena Vista Museum
  🕥 10:30 AM–12 PM (Museum open 10 AM–4 PM) @ 2018 Chester Ave
  (Salt painting activity included—$20 for two adults + up to 6 kids.)

• July 5 – F Street Farmers Market
  🕖 7:45 AM–12 PM @ Behind In Your Wildest Dreams, F Street Parking Lot
  (Fresh produce, local vendors, and Saturday morning vibes.)

• July 5 – Funkalotapus + DJ Dante Cross
  🕗 8–10 PM @ Chuy’s Baja Grill, Rosedale Blvd
  (Live funk band and DJ set—food and drinks available.)

• July 8 – Tastings & Teachings: Moai

  (Wine tastings paired with local expert talks—community wellness event.)

Remembering the past. The Beale Clocktower and downtown.

Bakersfield History

Just take a look at this picture of a bustling 50’s Bakersfield looking from Chester towards the Beale Clocktower that was located on 17th st. I've always wanted to be able to go back and see downtown and even old town kern busy in its heyday. As we all know, because the tower is not located downtown today, the clocktower went through quite a bit a few years after this picture was taken. This is what we like to call FORESHADOWING. I will be going into the great earthquake of 1952 next issue.

Local Business Spotlight

Fresh Harvest Market

This week featured local business is the Fresh Harvest Market. This little market is AWESOME. I originally went in when I saw the signage closer to its original opening a few years ago, and the owner was absolutely delightful. I told her it was my first time in there and she took time out of her day to explain to me her vision. She said that she saw a need for a market in town with fresher produce, meats and product in general, along with healthier options. Her and her husband own Montana Family Meats so they offer fresh meats that they grass feed at their ranch. They also try and source most of their products from local vendors or vendors that minimize chemicals and the unhealthy parts of our foods. Please give them a try, they have some awesome products, and a lot of them they actually package themselves! If you are looking to healthier and closer to organic, they’ll be your choice.

Local Art of The Week

This local artist’s name is MiggyLens on IG. Miggy is a new photographer around the area, and I have some exciting news. He’s looking to work a on portraits, and the first 2 people to reach out to me or him will get portrait shots for FREE!! As I stated, message myself or Miggy on his IG to get scheduled. It’ll be on a first come, first serve basis. Without further or due, he’s some of Miggy’s work.

This next local Bakersfield resident was the first person to reach out to me with a submission. Thank you to my new friend and reddit user /CartographerLess3945. He is not only a gifted photographer, but is also a Bakersfield history enthusiasts. I’m sure this is not the last time you guys will be seeing or hearing from him in my newsletter. Check out his reddit profile and history and he frequently posts about Bakersfield history!

The Old 7up Building off Union Ave

Local News

Another historical Bakersfield building caught fire and has been ruined. Do you remember the 7-up building located right off Union ave? The building has been there for about 91 years, and it has now been gutted like many other great Bakersfield buildings. Monday firefighters got a call about a fire, and it turned out to be this building. I stopped by myself and the building looks like it has nothing left inside. Another bad ending to a long standing Bakersfield building.

Another week in the books! I did this one last minute and was stressed out. lol Next few weeks I’m going to work a ton of OT so it might be hard getting everything out on time. I’ll try my very best though. The more ideas I get and try to do the longer it is taking. Please share with someone that might be interested in the newsletter.
