Local Business Spotlight
Tacos el ilegal- $1 tacos w/ handmade tortillas on Wednesdays!

$1 per taco!!! I’ve gotten 25 before lol. Will try and update a picture of the food later as I can’t find a good one, but the food is delicious
Needless to say there’s a ton of food trucks scattered all over town. Between those, only a hand full offer $1 tacos. Enter Tacos El Ilegal. They’re open from Wednesdays to Mondays from 5pm-11:30pm on the corner of the 58 hwy and Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. Fridays and Saturdays that extends to a closing time of 1am. My favorite day is Wednesdays with Tacos El Ilegal because of their $1 tacos! They have specials on other days so don’t forget to ask! They’re the best I’ve had at that price point, and it wasn’t close. I will say be prepared to wait in a relatively long line because the word is out about their $1 tacos in this economy and how delicious they are. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes tacos as they carry a variety of meats, delicious salsas and hand made tortillas! What a combination.
Remembering the past. The Bakersfield Sign on Union Ave.
Bakersfield History

Once spanning Union Avenue and greeting travelers with bold yellow letters, the original Bakersfield archway was built in 1949 by The Bakersfield Inn. After being damaged and removed in the ‘90s, the sign was rescued, restored, and relocated in 1999 — thanks in part to Buck Owens. Today, it stands proudly near the Crystal Palace, a glowing reminder of the city's mid-century charm and roadside history. Even more interesting, the original sign was actually a bridge because Union Avenue used to be U.S. Highway 99! Imagine that.
My husband proposed to me at the Bakersfield Inn in 1978
Says one Facebook user
Here’s a picture of the day the letters were being taken down! They sit on the part of the sign that was a bridge between each side of Union Ave.
Photo of The Week

Another photo I recently took of our beloved Alley Cat alley. What a historical alley it is. It hosts events and has a lot of history in it.
SOS someone please send in some personal artwork so I don’t have to continue to pretend to be artistic LOL Email me at [email protected]. Your work and you could be featured! It can be anything in and around Bakersfield. A photo, art, ANYTHING of that nature.
Hard Rock at Tejon.
Local News

Here is a digital rendering of what it will look like once the hotel is done
The Hard Rock Casino being built at Tejon continues its construction. No exact date has been issued but representatives said it will be open by New Year’s eve. I’m sure if they can get it before hand they will, but needles to say a project of that size is immense and hard to predict when it will fully be ready. I saw an estimate that it will cost 600 million to build!
I’m excited to see what changes it will bring to the Valley, and what opportunities it will present. Speaking of opportunities, there’s already a TON of jobs that need to be filled. Here’s a link to check out the list of needed positions. Also, if you or someone you know is a local vendor, they’re taking applications in to possibly work with them! Let anyone you know that fits the description. Here’s a link to apply to work as a vendor with the casino.
That’s it for this week.
That’s a wrap for issue #2. As I said last week, this will be a work in progress. I have been wanting to do something like this for YEARS. I always debated what would be the best format or if there would even be interest. Let me know if you have any feedback or thoughts.
